Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying, “so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever” ( Joshua 4:1–7, 24). So these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. When your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you?’ then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. And Joshua said to them, “Pass on before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take up each of you a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the people of Israel, that this may be a sign among you. When all the nation had finished passing over the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, “Take twelve men from the people, from each tribe a man, and command them, saying, ‘Take twelve stones from here out of the midst of the Jordan, from the very place where the priests’ feet stood firmly, and bring them over with you and lay them down in the place where you lodge tonight.’” Then Joshua called the twelve men from the people of Israel, whom he had appointed, a man from each tribe. I pray millions will be equipped to defend the Christian faith and that millions will be saved for eternity because of this reminder that God burdened us to build. I encourage you to visit the Ark Encounter with your families and friends so that all will be reminded of the truth of God’s Word and the saving gospel. Praise the Lord our children are passing on that godly legacy to their children. When our family had our annual photographs taken at the Ark, we had each family stand with those 12 stones. We desire for the Ark to help parents pass on a godly legacy to coming generations and challenge the people of the world with the truth of God’s Word and the gospel. When we opened the life-size Ark in Williamstown, Kentucky, this past July, the Answers in Genesis board members laid twelve stones, signifying that the Ark was our 12 stones for this world. It was also to be a reminder to all peoples of the earth concerning the one true God. These stones were to be a memorial (a reminder) to coming generations not to forget what God did and who He is. In verse thirteen, the troops passed over the “plains of Jericho” which is said to make it only about 5 miles east of Jericho. The word of the river being held back for thousands and thousands of them to cross would soon make their presence feared. But it would also serve as a reminder to the rest of the people, and a warning as well (verses 23-24) of the might of God. This memorial would serve as a reminder to their children and their heirs (verses 6-7) of the Lord and His power, and His faithfulness to His promise to them. the stones would be set up as a memorial where they camped at Gilgal. After all the nation had passed over the Jordan, the Lord told Joshua to appoint 12 men – one from each tribe – to take twelve stones from the earth where the Jordan flows, in the same spot where the priests stood.
